We bought our bikes into school today as we have been learning all bout exercise and being healthy. We had great fun but also thought about which muscles in our body we were working and how. We decided exercise makes our hearts work faster, makes us hot, makes us out of breath and makes our muscles ache. It must be good for us! We think cycling is great exercise as you can see from our photos.
When we came inside we had a look at some children’s helmets. We talked about how helmets help to keep our heads safe and how important they are. Miss Williams showed us what might happen to our heads if we don’t wear a helmet by holding Mr Egg up high and dropping him. He didn’t end up looking very healthy – in fact he looked egg-stremely sorry for himself!
We decided to make him an egg-helmet to protect him. We designed them based on the materials we had available. Tomorrow we are going to do our egg-speriments to see if our helmets work or not.
We are learning about the food groups as part of our Being Healthy topic. We began our afternoon by learning some more facts and then started to think about what makes a healthy meal. We looked at the school dinner menus and picked foods to make a healthy meal. We then made this meal from collage material. We had to think carefully about how much of each food to use to make it a balanced meal!
In our Maths lessons we are focusing on place value. Today we represented numbers in as many different ways as we could. We used counting sticks, dienes, bar models, partitioning trees, whiteboards and beads. Can you guess which number we were representing?
Today we started to learn about place value in Maths. We worked in pairs to practise making numbers with the dienes. We are learning how to work well with a partner, sharing ideas and teaching each other. Some worked very well together!
Today we started our topic of ‘Being Healthy’. We started by sharing all the ways we already knew to stay healthy.
These were our ideas:
We then realised all these things were to do with keeping our bodies healthy but it is important to have a healthy mind too! We thought of things we do to keep our minds healthy and shared times/activities that make us feel happy. We used these to make a happy booklet. We will put them on display in our classroom when they are finished.
This week in English we have spent some time getting used to how to make sure our work is always a piece to be proud of. We have practised our very neatest handwriting, focusing on ascenders and descenders, and practised finding and correcting spelling errors. We were excellent at editing our own writing today!
We have also read the book Oliver’s Vegetables. Today we started to learn about the sequence of the events in the story and are ready to learn it next week.
