We had lots of fun today looking at our artwork. We discussed whether we followed our plan and complimented each other.
Access All Arts week is a nationwide, week-long celebration of the arts, specially designed for primary schools.
The theme for 2024 is ‘Connection’ to explore how they can connect to themselves, each other and the world around them, through the arts.
In our workshop we watched a video from Mr Doodle discovering how we can connect marks to a place. He discusses what he does as an artist – he doodles! He explains how easy it is to build an entire world just with your pen, the world around you, and your imagination.
We also looked at careers in digital mark making.

We then had ago at making landscapes on paper and digitally on computers.

The workshop was also a wonderful opportunity for us to share our wonderful artwork that we have completed over the year.

Toucans learnt about the type of artwork made in the rainforest. They focused on clay coil pots after practising designs with the clay tools. There was lots of perseverance, concentration and creativity in the classroom today!

In Art we explored different materials. We described how they felt. Were they smooth? Rough? Rigid, Soft? We then selected the right materials to use for our collage.
We also experimented in mixing paint to make green and then making it lighter or darker using white and black.

Toucans practised shading, rubbing and adding texture using charcoal sticks and their fingers to blend. Year Two produced some fantastic work!

Next week will create our arctic animal inspired pieces
In Art we have been experimenting on mixing primary colours. Now we have used our skills to create a piece of art inspired by the great fire of London.

In Art today, Toucans explored mixing paint to create a colour wheel.

Today we worked to improve our skills in drawing. In Art, we have been learning all about Paul Cezanne and his still life artwork.
We used thick and thin lines and added dots and shading for texture.
First we observed the fruits. We showed great curiousity.
We then listened to tips from Mrs Parton on how it’s important to draw what you can see. Not what your partner can see.
Look at us independently drawing.

Next week we will develop our skills in using paints and plan our final pieces.
In Art we learnt about line thickness, different types of lines and also how shades can be lighter and darker.
This half term we have been studying Florence Nightingale.
We have been learning all about her early life and her career. Today, we have been looking at photos of Florence and comparing her to modern day nurses. We noticed that nurses have changed drastically over the years, and we think Florence Nightingale would love to work in a newer hospital.
We were able to draw portraits of Florence so that we could really look at how nurses would dress during the Crimean War.
Whilst we were drawing, we also asked each other retrieval questions to check our partner could remember facts about Florence Nightingale.

In Art, we have been learning all about Paul Cezanne and his still life artwork. Over the past few weeks, we have learnt lots of different skills such as, printing, adding tints and shades and drawing lines of different thicknesses.
All of this preparation helped us when we started our final piece this week! We all had a fruit bowl in the middle of our tables and we had to draw the fruits with the correct detail.
This week’s Art lesson was to explore a new medium which was charcoal. Toucans practised shading, rubbing and adding texture using charcoal sticks and their fingers to blend. Year Two produced some fantastic work and Miss Hookes was very impressed with their artistic talents and the end results. We now have some beautiful Polar Bears to decorate our classroom with!

For our first art lesson of the spring term we were looking at colours. We had a discussion at the beginning of the lesson to see how many colours we could think of in our groups. As a class we thought of almost 20 different colours. These included colours such as turquoise, magenta, maroon and lilac! This then lead to our discussion and our main learning point for the lesson about primary and secondary colours.
We found out that the primary colours are red, blue and yellow. These colours cannot be made using any other colours. Then we introduced the term secondary colours and discussed how secondary colours are made by mixing 2 different primary colours together to make our secondary colours.
We discovered this…
Red + Blue = Purple
Yellow + Red = Orange
Blue and Yellow = Green
We then had a go at mixing the primary colours ourselves to make our secondary colours. We also discussed how we might get different shades of secondary colours and that would depend on the amount of our primary colours we add.
Toucans have now finished their clay coil pots by making them colourful with paint. Do you like our creations? Which one is your
