In Music we have been exploring Rock Music. Last week we listened to We will rock you.
This we we have performed I wanna play in a band.
Ho Ho Ho!
This week we have started our new music unit. Ho Ho Ho is a fun Christmas song that includes rapping, improvising and dancing.
We listened to the song and discussed
What Can You Hear?
● One male and one female. Children’s voices, rapping and voices shouting out Christmas words.
● Sleigh Bells, bass guitar, trumpet, trombone, saxophone. Harmonica/synthesiser, piano and
strings.
We also had a go at singing it. We do need more practice but here is a sneek peak. We had lots of fun giving it a go.

Getting better at notes G A C
Year 2 are getting better at understanding the notes G A C on the glockenspiels. Some of us are still not hitting the bars correctly but we are persevering! Well done!
Glockenspiel Galore!
The last few weeks we have enjoyed our music lessons. We have listened to a range of south-African music and also learnt to sing the song “Music is in Me”
Today we got out the glockenspiels and learnt to play the notes G A C

Zootime! Music
Zootime is a song written in a reggae style
Hands, Feet, Heart
In music, we have been listening to South African music. The song we have been focusing on is “Hands, Feet, Heart”. We have loved learning the lyrics to the song and we can sing the song at the correct pitch throughout.
We have also been learning how to play the songs on the glockenspiel using the notes G, A and C. We all had lots of confidence and enjoyed doing a solo performance in front of the class.

Composing Music
Over the last few weeks Toucans have been composing their own music using the notes C, D, G and E. We have been using symbols to represent our notes. We together chose a star, square, circle and a triangle. We’ve only had a short time to practise, but next week we are putting all of our learning together from our composing lessons and presenting our group performances.
Composing and Improvising
Toucans have been busy learning a new song called Friendship. They listened and appraised songs with a similar theme called “Count On Me” by Bruno mars and “We Go Together” from Grease, the musical. Besides revising notes previously learnt in Year 1 and the Autumn term, Toucans have learnt the A and B note. This week, Toucans have been composing their own pattern of notes and improvising to the same piece of music. They created symbols for the notes to record their notation.
Using a graphic score to compose music
During our music lesson today we composed a graphic score to play on the glockenspiels. Once we had played our own composure we had a go at playing other graphic scores composed by our peers.
Learning the ‘Ho Ho Ho’ song
In our Music lessons we are preparing for the Carol service at the end of term. We are learning a song called Ho Ho Ho and are really enjoying it! We are singing, rapping and even playing the glockenspiels. We are getting better every week but it is tricky to play the notes in the correct order.
Evaluating music
In music we listened to lots of different pieces of music. We focused on what we liked or disliked, how the music made us feel and what it reminded us of. The pieces of music were all different styles and we really enjoyed some of them.
Pulse of a piece of music
Today in Music we continued to learn about the pulse of a piece of music. We also explored how to play and treat the musical instruments. Over the next few weeks we are going to learn to play notes for our song and also learn about improvising our own songs.
Healthy songs!
Today we enjoyed our first music lesson. We learnt two new songs connected to our topic of being healthy. We had great fun learning the actions but also really focused on the melody.
Rainforest music
Our Music lessons this term have been based around our topic of Rainforests. We have been practising several songs for our class assembly where we have learnt how to sing a melody accurately.
We have composed our own pieces of rainforest music using long and short sounds. Throughout the year we have learnt about beat and rhythm and we used these when making our own compositions. We then recorded what we did using symbols and practised playing our pieces of music with different dynamics. This week in Music we listened to a piece of music called Rain. It reminded us of a thunderstorm you might hear in the rainforest. We have been practising our own version just using ourselves to make the sounds but it is top secret until our class assembly!
Our new song “Ho, Ho, Ho”
In Music today we listened to our new song for this term – Ho, Ho, Ho. It made us feel all Christmassy already! We played some games to practise finding the beat of the music and then warmed our bodies and faces up by doing some fun exercises.
We are really looking forward to learning this song as it contains singing, rapping and instrumentals.
Playing the glockenspiels
In Today’s Music lesson we continued to practise playing the glockenspiels. It got a bit tricky when we had to sing and play at the same time! We are getting better every time we practise.

In Music this week we started to learn how to play the glockenspiel. We learnt about the notes first and then listened to a song we have been singing. We learnt the pattern of notes we needed to play and then practised. It was tricky to play in time to the music! We are going to keep playing to get even better!
